This substance is a multiple receptor tyrosine kinase inhibitor that has anti-angiogenic activity. A multisite study of it in patients with neuroendocrine tumors was started in spring 2003. No information on this study was available at www.clinicaltrials.gov in mid-February 2004, so we cannot tell you if this trial is still recruiting.

This information was received in mid-December 2004 by e-mail from a clinical trials representative from TycoHealthcare, which recently bought Mallinckrodt,the company that produces the materials to do octreoscans (another name for the procedure is somatostatin receptor scintigraphy). The concept here is to use somatostatin analogs with radioactive materials attached that have a chance to destroy neuroendocrine tumor tissue when the octreotide or octreotate carrying the radioactive material attaches to a somatostatin receptor on the tumor.
